Many of you know I’m a travel junkie. Seriously. My entire Instagram feed is full of travel and food pictures. As soon as I get back from one adventure, I’m planning the next one.

The Man Friend and I actually just got back from a trip to New Orleans. It was the first place we vacationed together as a couple and it’s where we got married. New Orleans is our soul city. I’m always on the lookout for new blog ideas, even when I’m not in the office. And walking around the soul city completely inspired me. The “mark” of New Orleans is easily recognizable…because they’ve branded themselves well. So what is branding, exactly?

I heart New Orleans…and their branding.

Branding is defined as “the marketing practice of creating a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products.” 

New Orleans is definitely one of the most branded cities in the world. The fleur de lis, Mardi Gras masks and beads, the above-ground cemeteries, the amazing ironwork balconies, and crawfish are everywhere. When people see these images, they automatically think of New Orleans. And that’s the whole point!

The entire purpose of branding is to make yourself unforgettable…your slogan, logo, or a particular image is, in essence, branded into your mind. It becomes an automated response, triggered the moment you see it. Creating a good brand makes your business memorable. And that’s just a small part of what SDB can do for your company.
