Ahhh, one of our favorite questions to begin our “Marketing Q&A” series! We have clients ask us quite often, “What does it take to be on the first page?” Usually, they think the answer has something to do with the amount you pay to Google (or whichever search engine you’re advertising on). The more money, the higher on the first page, right?? Not exactly. While that is (kind of) part of being on the first page,  it actually takes much more than that…

What Does It Take To Be On The First Page?

First, to understand what it takes to be on the first page, you have to understand the concept of SEO. Search engine optimization, or SEO, is defined as the process of affecting the visibility of your website or web page in a search engines “natural” or un-paid search results.

SEO is an entire marketing strategy, taking into consideration how search engines work and the specific content that people are searching. The higher your site appears on the results, the more likely a potential customer will visit your page. SEO is one, if not the most important aspects of your business. You have your website, but how are people to find you? If a potential client is looking for something, where are they going to go? Google, Yahoo, Bing. That’s where you need to be, too.

This Is Where We Come In

So how do you create great search engine optimization? Well that is what we do. If you’re REALLY interested to see how it all works, let us give you a run through: First, you must have a website, one that works well and looks good. Then, you have to have content. What is content? Blogging, landing pages, and site navigation, all contributing to your company and what you stand for.

The more content you have the better! Once you are seen as an SEO leader with content to match, you can rest assured your target market sees you as trustworthy and an industry professional. Creating content can be a lot of work but in the end pays off if done correctly.

Stand Out Above The Rest

In addition to an SEO strategy, you should run an online advertising campaign to supplement your organic content. This is done through a dashboard within the search engine you’d like to advertise on. For example, advertising on Google takes some work in Google AdWords. Online advertising makes your website stand out about the rest.
