This year, Snickers is the brand to beat when it comes to Super Bowl advertising.
Last year, their ad won the 1st Super Clio Award (an award meant to recognize the best, most creative, Super Bowl ad). You may remember its Brady Bunch-themed commercial featuring Steve Buscemi as Jan Brady and Danny Trejo as Marcia Brady.
(Cue “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.”)
This ad was not limited to Super Bowl advertising, however, in fact it circulated TV stations long after the big game was over.
But that was last year…
Based on the past success of their Super Bowl advertising, Snickers will once again play on the “you’re not you when you’re hungry” theme. Hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right?
Ehhh, questionable in this case…

Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of last year’s ad. Can’t tell you why, it just didn’t really appeal much to me. I have the same sentiments about this year’s ad.
The teaser ad, released January 26, features none other than the beautiful Marilyn Monroe singing “Happy Birthday” to the Super Bowl itself. 50 is a big year, after all.
From what I have seen thus far (you can check it out for yourself below), I can’t say I’m overly impressed. I just feel like they could’ve done…better. Maybe their actual commercial will surprise me, but I’m not counting on it. Snickers has set the bar high. We’ll see if they exceed my expectations.
For me, this one falls under the “maybe watch” category. I mean, if you just have to make a necessary trip to the kitchen when it comes on, I’d say go ahead. If you happen to be comfy on the couch, give it 30 seconds and let me know what you think.
We’ve still got more Super Bowl advertising previews to come! See you tomorrow!
