First of all, I must disclose, I’m a Belieber.

That’s right, I absolutely love Justin Bieber. I don’t know what it is about that kid, but I just can’t get enough of him.

And I’m not the only one. Justin is a really popular guy. Which makes searching for his name a really popular topic. But what does this have to do with your SEO?

Rank Relevance (Fake Word)

So I don’t think rank relevance is an actual term, but it should be. Here’s why: say you’re a fly fishing company. You can work really hard to rank for a search term that contains the words Justin Bieber, but why would you do that?

Justin Bieber is a very popular key term, but not within your niche.

You don’t want to target people who are searching for Justin. You want to target people who are searching for fly fishing. So despite the popularity of a certain term, that does not necessarily mean you should try to rank for that term.

It’s irrelevant.

Your efforts are better spent ranking for words that your audience is searching for; because those are the searches that will bring you business. But how do you know what your audience is searching for?

2 words: keyword research

In my blog series next week, I’m going to explain how and why to do keyword research.

So stay tuned for more!

Belieber out.
