Like I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, complacency will ultimately lead to failure in AdWords. It’s the honest truth. That’s why it’s of vital importance to always be testing. You should have a good idea of what works, and what doesn’t, in order to optimally perform. But how do you go about testing Google AdWords?

Testing Google AdWords is as easy as using the tools Google provides to you.

Under the Keywords tab in your AdWords account, you can analyze each keyword. Check out the click trend via the nifty chart Google provides. You can even see the 1-10 quality score here. The best practice is to pause the poorly performing keywords (the ones with few clicks or poor quality scores). These keywords are costing you money and hurting your performance. In time, you can work on these keywords and eventually run them when they prove to be a benefit to you.

Use the Dimensions tab to see where you’re ranking, what clicks you’re getting, and how conversions look in various ad positions. You’ll glean valuable insights from this data and might rethink your ad rank strategy.

Also in the Dimensions tab, use the STR, or Search Terms Report, to find the cheaper, higher-converting keywords that have less competition as well as new keywords to bid on. You’ll also find potential negative keywords to add to your campaigns so you’re not wasting money on bad keywords.

There are endless tools that will help you to test Google AdWords and improve your overall performance. But who has time for that?
