This week, we are giving you marketing stats that will blow your mind…starting with search engine optimization, or SEO.
From our blogs last week, you know how important having a website is, and what components are necessary for an awesome website. One of those components was SEO, or optimizing the content on your website to be picked up by search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.)
But do you really realize just how critical SEO is…?
Here are some stats that might help:
- 61% of global Internet users research products online. (Interconnected World: Shopping and Personal Finance, 2012)
- 44% of online shoppers begin by using a search engine. (Interconnected World: Shopping and Personal Finance, 2012)
- On average, we conduct 12 billion searches per month on the web in the United States. (Comscore, July 2014)
(Shout out to Hubspot for the stats by the way!)

What can we gather from those stats?
Your consumers are online. They are using their resources (search engines) to research and make their buying decisions. The days are gone where they have to physically come to you for their information. They’ll go online. And if they can’t find it there, they’ll go to someone who will give them the information they’re looking for…perhaps your competition.
So, yes, having a website is super important. However, making sure your website shows up in search engine results is even more important. (What’s the point in having a killer website if your potential customers can’t find it?!)
Moral of the story: Create a website. Publish content. Optimize the content.
However, that’s not quite as easy as it sounds…
Those three things take some effort, knowledge, and time.
