For some reason, some people closely associate marketing with unethical business. “Marketing’s a scam,” I’ve heard before.
I can understand how this might happen. For most people, when you fall victim to a pop up ad and give them your information in hopes of something in return; and when 1) you get nothing or 2) your expectations are not met, you call it a “scam.”
No one likes to be disappointed, and whenever you’ve been “scammed” once, you typically don’t see marketing/advertising in the same light.
But, I’m here to tell you that ethical (and effective) marketing is NOT a scam. Let me tell you why.
Effective marketing does 3 things: First, it earns the attention of the consumer with relative content and then encourages them to make a purchase decision off of the content that originally attracted them. After it earns the attention and encourages a decision, marketing should fulfill the needs of the consumer.
