One of the biggest words we like to use in the advertising/marketing industry is INTEGRATION. Is your marketing integrated?
If you’re running a TV commercial, are you sending people to your website where they’ll find the same or similar message? If you’re updating your Facebook page, does the message coincide with what your customers are hearing in your latest radio ad? If you’ve created a billboard, is the aesthetic in line with your branded logo or with the promotions’ graphics?
Everything you do to promote your business should be consistent. Across the board, your marketing should match. Your brochures should match your website which should match your Facebook profile picture which should match your TV commercials which should match your…well, you get the idea. Without this consistency, without this INTEGRATION, you lose your message. When you lose the message, you lose your ability to brand your company more effectively. And in the end, you’re losing money and potential customers.
It all starts with an idea and a design. Make sure that the idea and the accompanying design are the foundation for everything else. If it’s a promotion with a specific color scheme, then that color scheme should follow it for the duration of the promotion. If there is a tagline or a slogan, those words should be printed on anything that’s printed and said in everything that’s recorded.
So, how can you integrate your marketing?
It starts internally. Make sure your entire staff (on-site and off) are aware of any new campaigns, branding or rebranding efforts, etc. If your company doesn’t know what’s going on, then you can’t expect your customers to know! Once you’ve informed them, it’s up to you to make sure that you portray your message succinctly to those vendors, contractors, salespeople who will be helping to project that message. If they don’t understand that this is a cohesive message, then you won’t get one. If you have one person from Company A working on your website and one person from Company B recording your commercials and one person from Company C handling your promotional products, every single one of them must know your message…and many times, that’s hard to do.
