In this blog series, I will be talking about marketing and advertising from my perspective as an intern. I will be covering topics such as things I want to learn, trending topics, marketing basics, and my learning experience in general as an intern.
Before I begin this series, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ana Lara. A couple of weeks ago I graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a BBA in marketing, and like many college graduates, I am beginning my hunt for my first job as a recent college graduate…
After four years and thousands of dollars spent, (if after all that you don’t know the four P’s of marketing then what are you doing??) I had very little job experience. With little to no experience, I decided to take an internship this summer so that I could get some job experience and figure out what career path I want to take.
Let Me Take You On A Journey...
…through the eyes of an intern!
By now, marketers have realized the importance of having an online presence. Part of having an online presence is having a website that is functional, has content that will attract visitors, and can be found easily on search engines. Below are the three tools that can help a website achieve this.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)– SEO is focused on growing visibility in organic, non-paid search engine results. SEO is all about letting search engines easily find your website. So if you own a plumbing company, and a person types “plumbing service” into Google, your website will have a better chance of appearing higher in the search results.
- Google AdWords– This service allows you to place ads onto Google search results. A key element of this is choosing search keywords that will allow your website to appear first in search results. However, unlike SEO, you pay every time someone clicks on your ad.
- Google Analytics– This service tracks and reports website traffic, such as sales, lead generation, and landing page quality. Tracking and reporting these elements can help you see how well your website is attracting visitors and keeping them engaged.
As a marketer, knowing about these three tools is vital in order to help clients get the most out of having a well-run website. Despite all of the learning and studying done at school, knowing how to properly use these tools is something that comes with having experience. For this reason, during the course of this internship I hope to learn more about how to use these tools!
Follow along in my blog series as I not only learn more about the three topics above, but also as I broaden my marketing and advertising horizons!
