Ahhh, spring cleaning.
First of all, let me just say, weren’t we just celebrating New Years? Now it’s time to “spring forward??”
Anyways, typically, when you hear “spring cleaning,” of course you think of household chores (garage organization, scrubbing grout lines, cleaning out the fridge….). However, spring cleaning should not be limited to solely household tasks.
Your website should be spring cleaned, too!
This week, the SDB team is telling you what steps you need to take to freshen up your website. We’re starting today with content cleanup! Wondering what that even means? Read on!
The content on your website includes 3 main things: text, images and video. These things are critical to the look and “findability” of your website. Like the expired items in your fridge, they require a periodic clean out.
Now, it does not necessarily mean that you have to get rid of the text images and video. While it is recommended to “freshen up” the look of your website every so often, it’s important to simply check your website content.
What To Look For
When you’re conducting this content cleanup, it’s important to look for missing images, or links to video that don’t work. Images or video that don’t work right can really make your website look sketchy. As far as text goes, ask an objective third party to read the words on your site. Does it make sense to them? More importantly, does it make them want to contact you to get started? If not, it may be time to rewrite the text on your site.
Altogether, does you site look current and relevant? If your site looks outdated, that could make your business seem outdated and irrelevant. There are plenty of other fresh, functional sites out there that your potential customer could choose…make sure you’re one of them.
Set It & Forget It
Websites are NOT (all caps means I’m serious) something you can “set and forget.” Websites require constant maintenance to insure they’re not only fresh and functional, but also safe and secure. If you don’t have the time (who does?) to upkeep your website, you’re in luck. The website pros at SDB Creative Group do! We can’t promise clean grout lines, but we can promise a clean website!
