Reading this blog will NOT give you wings.
Unless, by “wings” you mean incredible marketing insight. In that case, then yes, it does.
Red Bull was recently sued for false advertising, given that the fizzy energy drink does not actually give you wings. Red Bull settled the case out of court, setting to refund $10 to any United States customer who bought the drink since 2002 (get yours here), and agreeing to revise future advertising. However, Red Bull maintains its marketing and labeling “have always been truthful and accurate, and denies any and all wrongdoing or liability.”
Well ladies and gents, this is what we call a marketing FAIL.
Or is it?
Negative attention is better than no attention at all. Red Bull sales have increased after the lawsuit, whether or not this increase is due to the lawsuit itself is unknown. Alright people, false advertising is wrong. Duh. But giving your brand a personality and something that people use to recognize it, is not. Whenever most people hear “gives you wings,” they immediately think of Red Bull, thanks to the brand awareness Red Bull has developed.
