Hey Resistant,

Happy New Year to you, as well! Marketing strategy can seem daunting at first, especially considering how quickly the market and tools change. However, you still need to have a plan. Today, I’m going to give you a few pointers on how to make that happen.

(1) Get To The Drawing Board

Just hoping you’ve got a decent marketing plan isn’t the same as actually having one. Actually write down what your goals are. If you’re having trouble thinking of what they might be, ask yourself these questions:

  • Was I able to capture how much of a return my advertising gave me last year?
  • How much business did I receive directly from my advertising efforts?
  • Which mediums resulted in the largest return?
  • Are there specific campaigns which were more successful than others?
  • Am I spending enough time on my efforts?
  • How much am I willing to spend to achieve my goals?

(2) Create Deadlines

Everyone hates the word deadline. However, as a business owner, it’s important to set end dates for yourself and your plan. These don’t all have to be massive goals. Break them down! Set monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual deadlines for yourself. For example, you want to grow your Facebook page by 5% more likes each month. Once you have a goal in mind, it makes it easier to figure out the means to achieve it.

(3) Make A Date With Yourself

If you’re establishing marketing goals for yourself, it’s important that you take the time to review them, too. Not checking up on your goals is very similar to using your debit card without checking the balance frequently. You’ll never know for sure what’s going on unless you’re keeping an eye on it. This also gives you an opportunity to assess what’s going on in the world. Platforms update, new programs role out, and things change. It’s important to review these changes to make sure you’re not lagging behind.

(4) Better Yet…Make A Date With SDB

Marketing can seem overwhelming. Just like your job is to run your company, it’s our job to make sure your marketing is covered. From data analysis to marketing trends, we make sure that our customers understand how their advertising dollars are working for them. It also helps to know that you’ve got someone in your corner who is helping you to make money through your marketing.
