Dear Amanda,

I’m pretty stressed out right now. As a small business owner, I wear a lot of hats, including marketing. Like everything else, it sometimes gets pushed down to the bottom of the list, even though I know it’s really important. How do I make time for marketing?

Signed,

Overworked and Under Marketed

Hey OUM!

First of all, CHILL OUT. Just kidding. No one likes to be told that. However, I do encourage you to take a deep breath and get ready to take notes. I’m going to help you prioritize…after you take a moment to look at this beautiful sunset and woosah for a moment before we begin:

make time for marketing

(1) Set A Date…With Yourself

Bosses don’t miss meetings. Each day, you should schedule a meeting with yourself to do various tasks. These include reviewing finances, identifying potential clients, and (of course!) analyzing marketing plans. Whether it’s 15 minutes a day or a few hours each week, it’s important to determine:

  1. What your end goals are in relation to your marketing efforts.
  2. How your existing plan is helping to meet those goals.
  3. Where changes must be made in order to make that a reality.

Establish a “baseline” calendar that you keep with yourself. It’s important to set aside time to oversee all aspects of your company.

(2) Don’t Half-A** It

Just like your business didn’t boom overnight, your marketing won’t necessarily happen immediately. It takes time, effort, and constant attention. The occasional social media post, once a month blog, or half-hearted email each quarter isn’t going to be enough. One of the best strategies in marketing is to constantly and consistently stay on the top of your customers’ minds. While they may not need you today, someone they know might. Or perhaps they might need you later on down the road. Don’t be the “oh, what’s it company that does [fill in the blank]? I can’t remember their name…”

(3) Learn How To Delegate…Or Outsource

As with most entrepreneurs, it’s easy to get into the “I need to do everything myself” mode. No one will do things exactly as you do. However, it’s a matter of finding a person (or agency like SDB) that you trust to achieve your marketing.

The team at SDB Creative Group is creative, professional, and experienced in a variety of platforms to help meet and exceed your marketing expectations. We put the focus on our clients…it’s all about you! Our job is simply to take your ideas and turn them into a reality. It’s important to work with a team that can creatively construct a message to clients in a way that’s both informative and engaging. We’re here to chat, whenever you’re ready.

Hang in there, schedule an appointment, and continue to #marketlikeaboss. Want to find out more…that’s easy.

Best,

Amanda
